Advice - When Life Seems Tough

Why This Site Exists: "I Just Want To Feel Good!"

My name is Adam Sheck. As a Clinical Psychologist, I’ve studied the human mind and psyche for decades, formally and as a layperson. I’ve earned four degrees struggling to come to some type of understanding of myself and others. I’ve worked with hundreds of people, individually, as couples, and in small groups.

The common denominator of all those I’ve met is, “I just want to feel good!” “I know there is more to life than this!”

For too long, psychotherapy has focused on the negative: what’s the problem, what’s the pathology, what’s the diagnosis, what’s the disorder, what’s the dis-ease?

Along the way, a few mavericks have put some focus on what does work in our lives, some focus on solutions, some focus on the positive, some focus on optimism.

And yet, people still cry out, “I just want to feel good.”

And as psychotherapists, we give our all. We want to help. And we talk. And we listen. And we “therapize” our clients and our patients. And we struggle. And they struggle. And with much work, results are won, improvements are made.

And yet, not everyone on this planet has access to quality care or has the time or financial resources. In fact, people who have the luxury of examining their lives, of exploring their lives through psychotherapy or other means are in the minority.

Far too many of us still cry out, “I just want to feel good.”

I’m not talking about a quick fix or a magic pill. I’m not saying that “feeling good” means always being happy.

To me, “feeling good” is more about living a life of meaning, living a life consistent with my values. To me, “feeling good” is about being able to look back upon my life one day, from my rocking chair and saying, “I made a difference, I contributed something worthwhile, I touched a few people, enriched a few lives.”

I don’t pretend to have all of the answers. I’m not grandiose enough to think that I have all the pieces of the puzzle.

What I have is a willingness to ask the question, “How can I learn to feel good?” And a stubbornness, a doggedness to follow each path I encounter on the way to the answers.

And I have a willingness to share this information with those who also want to live a fuller life. And to share what you have discovered as well.

And so, I have created the “Learn To Feel Good” newsletter and the website, www.learntofeelgood.com. The content of this website is freely available to anyone with computer access (which admittedly is still a small percentage of the population). Additional services will become available as well.
