1. Welcome from Dr. Sheck!
______________________________________________________

Welcome to the tenth issue of the Learn To Feel Good (SM)
Newsletter!

So much has happened on our planet since my last newsletter
in September. With all of the tragedy, there is also the heroism,
the magnificence that also arises in response. And while little
has been “resolved” we are all in a process of healing. Which
is what I speak about later in this issue, in “Clean up, then
clean up!”

For those of you new to me and my website, please follow
this link to learn more:

http://www.learntofeelgood.com

I’ve got many new items there that might expand your lives,
cause you to think or perhaps put a smile on your face.

I’m offering a four week “email” course in January, “The
Psychology of Money” which will be all about our relationship
to (or against) abundance in our lives. The “investment” for
the course will be $25 US and you may go to the link below
to register:

http://www.learntofeelgood.com/moneycourse.html

And always feel free to contact me with questions or
comments at:

mailto:drsheck@learntofeelgood.com

So welcome, and thank you, again, to all of my subscribers,
new and vintage. If you gain something from this newsletter
or the website and find it valuable in some way, please pass
it on to your friends, family and colleagues around the globe.
Just click on that “forward” button on your email program.

And please allow me to add my best wishes for the holiday
season and the New Year!

-M. Adam Sheck, Psy.D.

3. Clean up, then Clean Up!
______________________________________________________

I’ve been considering moving my psychology consulting room
from my office into my home. It’s an interesting integration,
with pros and cons, like everything.

So, today, I’m cleaning up the house with my 8 year old
daughter, Alana. It’s long overdue for it, with many
accumulations that I don’t necessarily need.

This is my system, one I’ve recommended to many patients. If
it’s over a year old and you haven’t used it, throw it out. If you
can’t handle that, take anything you haven’t used in over a year
and put it all in a box (or many boxes), mark the date, and put it
your garage or other storage. If it stays unopened in the box for
another year, throw it out! Like Bob Dylan used to sing, “Don’t
Think Twice, It’s Alright!”

So, in cleaning up, I notice how I would rearrange the house if I
had patients here. What I would want them to see reflected
about me in my home, in how I arrange things, in what I have
and how I take care of it. All those things that I would fix
“someday” when I get around to it.

So, if I would clean up my act for my patients, why wouldn’t I
simply to it for myself? Brilliant question, Dr. Sheck! That’s
why I’m doing it right now. I do my best to follow my own
advice, which makes it doubly brilliant, or at least useful.

Shankari, a magician married to a Balinese Prince told me a
few months ago, in order to do magics, you need focus,
discipline and consciousness. Now my “magics” are
perhaps a little less blatant or “out there” than Shankari’s.
However, the work I do, healing of the psyche, definitely is
magical. So, I heed this advice.

And it all starts with our surroundings, the way we care for
our environment. It is so very basic, yet so very powerful.
A clean home, a clean car, a clean office, a clean desk –
these are the launching points of whatever we are to
create in our lives.

And the physical environment is just the beginning! A clean
mind is key as well! Read that more as a CLEAR mind. A mind
freed from all of its clutter, all the extraneous thoughts of the
day, how powerful would that be in our lives?

A mind cleared of all of the baggage of our past, all of our
emotional clutter, all of our hurt feelings, all of our traumas,
“real” and imagined. What would it be like? What power
would we have to shape our lives, craft them exactly as we’d
like, if we were free from this clutter, if we cleaned up our
act?

We know that a physical wound can’t begin to heal fully until we
have cleansed it and until we keep it clean. This is so true for
our emotional wounds as well, and the wounds to our spirit.

How high could our soul soar if we didn’t weight it down with all
the clutter? Emotional healing, spiritual healing, physical healing,
all healing can be facilitated by cleaning up!

It is now the Holiday Season, a “New Year” is about to begin.
This is the traditional time for many to review our lives and
make “resolutions.”

I don’t care what you “resolve” or leave “unresolved,” if you
don’t clean up something, somewhere, nothing will change!
So begin now, to clean up and witness what “magics” may
appear in your life!

M. Adam Sheck, Psy.D.

incorporating Focus, Discipline, and Consciousness
into your life, please go to the link below (don’t

4. The Birds & The Bees: Another Crude Joke
______________________________________________________

Life is so, so serious, and we know that laughter is an
extremely healing energy. And so, I once more present
a crude, yet somewhat amusing joke, to round out this
newsletter issue. It’s short but sweet, and DEFINITELY
NOT FOR CHILDREN. Feel free to tell me what you think at:

mailto:drsheck@learntofeelgood.com

And if you find this joke amusing, I have an entire section
of bawdy jokes on my website, at:

http://learntofeelgood.com/notfortheprudish.html

So, without further ado:

THE BIRDS AND THE BEES

A father asks his ten-year old son if he knows about
the birds and the bees.

"I don't want to know!" the child says, bursting into
tears.

Confused, the father asks his son what was wrong.

"Oh dad," he sobs, "at the age of six I got the 'there's
no Santa' speech. At seven I got the 'there's no Easter
Bunny' speech. Then at 8 you hit me with the 'there's
no Tooth Fairy' speech. If you're going to tell me now
that grown-ups don't really have sex, I've got nothing left
to live for!"

5. Who is Dr. Sheck?
______________________________________________________

After decades of personal investigation on both traditional and
non-traditional paths, Dr. M. Adam Sheck entered the mental
health field. His doctorate is in Clinical Psychology. A bit on the
overeducated side, he also has degrees in Management and
Engineering.

He is a licensed Clinical Psychologist (California License PSY15487)
and Clinical Director of the Manhattan Counseling Center in
Manhattan Beach, California. He is a Professor in the Departments
of Human Behavior and Psychology at Ryokan College in Venice,
California, teaching the two year core curriculum in psychology
as well as graduate classes in counseling psychology. In addition
he supervises/trains psychology interns at the Airport Marina
Counseling Center in Los Angeles, California.

Dr. Sheck’s approach to psychotherapy and healing has
evolved over time and combines the psychoanalytic approach
with the more spiritual and soul work of C.J. Jung. This
psycho-spiritual method seems quite effective in working
with people who have experienced deep traumas and are
struggling to make sense of their lives. Dr. Sheck also
treats patients one day per week for what they can afford,
his “community mental health” day.

He also has a great deal of experience in career transition
issues, having created a number of businesses. In addition
to psychotherapy, Dr. Sheck conducts business and career
“coaching” both face to face and by telephone. He is the
creator of the “Learn To Feel Good” seminar series which
provides tools for “systematically having the life you want.”

Dr. Sheck is past President of the Southern California
Association of Imago Relationship Therapists (SCAIRT). Imago
Relationship Therapy (IRT), created by Harville Hendrix
("Getting The Love You Want"), is a very successful form of
couples psychotherapy. Dr. Sheck finds it extremely satisfying
to support couples in working through their conflicts and
distress, and helping them to enhance their relationship.
